For many in the obstacle racing world, race season began months ago for us on the northeast it is just about time to get started. In fact my first race is coming up in a few weeks, not an obstacle race but an ultra running race. What constitutes an ultra? Technically, anything over 26.2 miles is an ultra. Some argue it's not a true ultra until you reach the 50 or 100+ mile range. For me starting out the season after not enough time in the prep period I am starting off with a 30 miler.
Looking forward to heading down the road right next to Spartan Race HQ to run the Peak Ultra 30 miler. Peak Races if the precursor to Spartan Race. Spartan Race stemmed out of the Death Race which was the brain child of Peak Race founders. Happy with the fact my first race will be in the mountains I know well and close to home. It will be nice to put on a bib again and remember what it is like to toe the line.
I haven't been in a race since December other and a snowshoe half marathon that I got special permission to race the day before the actual event. I am looking forward to the feeling of putting on the bib, tying my shoelaces tight and hitting the trail with my fellow runners. With the weather getting better each day and the days longer it's time to start spending some serious time on the trails here in Vermont.
