Racing season has started back up again! Just returned from Fuego y Agua in Nicaragua where I ran a grueling 50K jungle/tropical ultra marathon. No taking it easy jumping into this years season, instead it was an ultra to kick off the year. This was my second trip to Nicaragua for Fuego y Agua, last year I ran the survival run this year I opted for the run only 50K trail race.
The race had up climbing volcanos, running along hot dry rocky roads, visiting part of this landlocked island where white people rarely ever go and experiencing an unique culture in an exciting way! I would call it more of an adventure than just a trip, as it was living to the extreme, no hot water, no a/c, sometimes even no water in the hostel. But as always you adapt to your surroundings and soon it all seems normal. One of the things I do make sure I have with me on every trip is my race fuel prepared in advance! As I packed, I made sure I had GlycoFuse for the race as well as Aminolast to help aid in recovery after the race was over.
These are two items that I always have with me on race day and when I travel. I love the 5 serving packs of Aminolast and they are the best for traveling. For me one of the most important things when I travel is experiencing the culture while at the same time making sure at the end of the day I am getting all the nutrition that I need in order to perform at my best. I can do without hot water, a/c, and other luxuries but my nutrition is something I can't skip! Happy to be home now for a few days before taking off to Temecula California for the next race this weekend.
