Carbohydrates and Performance – Separating Fact From Fiction

If you are overly concerned with carbohydrates, then you really aren’t concerned with performance, recovery, or lean muscle. True athletes understand the importance of carbohydrates. Glycogen is what helps fuel your workouts and keep muscles volumized. There is no way around that!  Here’s the reality. Not all carbs are created equal. There’s a lot of cleverly labeled and modified maltodextrin on the market or there is plain old cornstarch relabeled as super muscle engorging waxy maize. Most of these aren’t proven to do anything except deliver false hopes and burn a hole in your pocket.

This is why Gaspari Nutrition chose cyclic cluster dextrin for Glycofuse, what will become the gold standard of carbohydrate recovery and performance drinks. This high molecular weight carbohydrate has a special structure which gives it unique properties unlike many of other so called performance carbohydrates out there. It is easily absorbed by the body through the small intestine, leaving you with absolutely not stomach discomfort.  In the past, I have had with digestion with many different products but not with Glycofuse.  I’m lucky to have been sent a beta-test batch before last years Olympia.  I used it going into the show and even to carb up on… yes, the stuff I was drinking back stage in my shaker was the very same thing you can buy today. For any bodybuilder or athlete who takes performance seriously, expect nothing less from Gaspari Nutrition and Glycofuse will not disappoint. I wont put my neck on the line to promote something I dont believe in and use on the DAILY!!! That is the truth.

For me, I use 75 to 100g of Glycofuse per day. All depending on the bodypart im about to train. For example, on back days… Pre-Workout 1/2 scoop Glycofuse (12.5g); Intra-Workout 1 scoop Glycofuse (25g); and Post-Workout 1-1/2 scoop Glycofuse (37.5g). This keeps my muscles full and fueled during intense training sessions.  As I get closer to the Olympia, Neil Hill will adjust my carbs down to 25-50g or less, but right now I look forward to drinking it every day because it really fuels my body and the added electrolytes keep my hydrated as well.

Those of concerned with the low-carb craze, have no fear. Recently a good friend of mine came to stay with me for a week during my Olympia prep.  He has been trying to lose weight and get in shape for as long as I’ve known him.  Personally, I hate the stupid fad diets where people do 0 carbs and run on nothing but fat burners for energy. In speaking with him, we starting discussing his new diet that we came up with a few weeks back.  He was one of them guys killing himself on low carbs and energy pills. He filled me in on his progress and had lost over 30lbs. in 90 days!  Even better yet, he has been using Glycofuse during his workouts the whole time.  So if you are afraid of using carbohydrates during your “diet,” Glycofuse will not prevent you from losing weight.  If your diet and cardio is in balance, this is a great source of fast acting replenishment carbs that will keep you full during prep, keep your pumps and get you to your goals!
