Get your Control Back!
06/11/2012

Have you ever woken up and looked at your body and asked yourself, “How did I get here”? It’s so easy to get out of the routine of healthy habits and eating that I have been guilty of this from time to time. Earlier this year I was not happy with my body and was frustrated that I let myself get to a point where I was not comfortable.  Well, how do you get that control back?

Now I am going to use my own experience here because I so desperately wanted to get my body to what it was before I hit this wall. Now the wall I hit was a result from overtraining and developing a series of different health issues. I knew something wasn’t right and I didn’t want to live in denial anymore so I got checked out. That was the best thing I could of done...ALWAYS listen to your body.

I train so many people and everyone that comes to me is at the point where they know they need a change and want to change. But how do you gain your control with your body and mind.  So first thing first you need a plan.  I often tell people that you must be prepared everyday and if you have a solid meal plan and training program it makes it a lot easier. Working with my trainer we devised a new meal plan and workout that is helping me get back on track.  But, you must stick to the program, watch the cheating on foods and no shortcuts, you will only set yourself up for failure.

Second, you have to get your mind right.  It all starts with your mental attitude.  You have to believe you can make the changes necessary to achieve your fitness goals. It may seem like a huge feat especially if you have lots of weight to lose but always remember it’s a marathon not a sprint and it takes time.

Another good rule of thumb to gain control and stay on track is to avoid the triggers that knock you off routine. I don’t buy certain foods because I know there are times when I’ll snack on it more then I would like. I would like to say that I am perfect and I have amazing self control but let’s be honest….no one is perfect and I am human like anyone else but I have recognized in order for me to stay on track I must avoid certain triggers.

Be an inspiration to someone or inspire yourself to change.  Sometimes making the changes and family or friends recognizing this inspires you to continue on your journey and keep control of your life and your actions.

It’s never to late to gain control of your life. Start today!

“In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives but what we do consistently.” Anthony Robbins
