It’s 10am on Thursday, March 1
st, and I am just a few days away from my second appearance on the Ms. Bikini International stage (so excited!). I‘ve done my cardio and training for the day, and I’m now enjoying a little quiet time in my hotel room. Quiet moments are rare on a show weekend, so before the whirlwind of activity takes over, I thought I would take a moment to reflect on my prep and how I am feeling about the show.
All in all, this was a really strong prep for me. I focused on maximizing every training session by maintaining a high level of intensity throughout the eight weeks rather than letting the grind steal my energy. This focus was born a few weeks into my prep while doing sprints with my husband. After completing our seventh sprint, Eddie called me out for slowing up short of the finish line rather than running through it. I didn’t realize that I was even doing it. In that moment, I decided that this prep was going to be about sprinting through (not just to) the finish line. No letting up until its time to shine on March 3rd. When I was tempted to bail on a few minutes of cardio or reps, I would think - sprint through the finish line. Then, I would add an extra minute or rep.
With about 90 cardio sessions and 40 training sessions behind me, I can say that I am proud of my puddles of sweat, the trail of empty Ziplocs I left wherever I went and the results I will present in a few days. So, as Frank Zane would say, “I have already won.” Now – the question is how will I fare against all of my gorgeous fellow Bikini athletes?? We shall see. It’s going to be fun. Can’t wait!
