Jaime Baird

Today is the first day of the Olympia, and I am packing up and heading out–but not to prejudging. Instead, I am heading to the airport for my sister-in-law’s wedding. I am so happy to celebrate this weekend with family, but it’s a really a strange feeling to not be a part of the Olympia […]

Athlete Background

How long have you been into your sport? >

Since July 2007

How did you get started? >

My husband and I have always been fans of bodybuilding and would occasionally attend shows in the local area. While attending the 2007 NPC Mid Florida in Orlando, I met Shannon Dey, founder of Bombshell Fitness. She recommended that I give competing a try. At the time, I desperately wanted to regain some balance in my life, as I had devoted it almost exclusively to my marketing career. So, without much consideration, but with a strong gut feeling, I said, “let’s do this,” and began training with her six days later. She is still my trainer and a trusted mentor.

why do you train? >

Training and living fit makes me feel more effective in all other areas of my life. I say, "fitness fuels success," as it makes me feel stronger, sharper, energized, vibrant, confident, positive, empowered and effective.

what motivates you? >

The idea of becoming my best "me" and inspiring others to do the same.

What are your goals? >

1.To continue to improve and evolve as an IFBB Bikini athlete, in terms of my physique, presentation and mindset.
2.To be the kind of physique athlete who is not solely defined by her physique/appearance but also by who she is and what she contributes to others.
3.To empower others (women, in particular) to achieve their best in health and life by candidly sharing my lessons learned in various outlets (blogs, seminars, books, consulting, etc.).
4.To associate with brands I believe in wholeheartedly and passionately represent them to the world.

What are your core principles behind your approach to this sport? >

1.Give relentless effort every day, even when it is inconvenient or uncomfortable.
2.Stay relentlessly optimistic and full of self-belief, as our thoughts determine just how far we can go and how much we can achieve.
3.Focus on one thought, choice, rep, step and meal at a time. Win the moment ... win the day…win the week ... win the prep ... WIN!
4.Enjoy the journey. Make friends, support others, celebrate small and large victories, challenge yourself, don't take yourself too seriously and have fun.

what advice would you give someone? >

Strive for high placings, but measure your true success by things that you can control: your daily effort, physical progress, emotional growth, impact on others and fortitude. Otherwise, you may spend a whole lot of the journey disappointed rather than amazed by what you have achieved.

Also, fight the tendency to lose confidence in yourself or become resentful of the process during the really challenging days. Actively crowd out any negative thoughts and beliefs with positive affirmations and visualizations to keep your mind as healthy as your body and you on track to your best.
